Description
These drills were made using a new surface coating technique. This technology is a multi-layer system made of different materials such as titanium nitride (TiN) and titanium aluminum nitride (TiAIN). These two materials ensure that the wear progress on the drill is slowed down. With this coating we achieve heat resistance and hardness. The hardness is given as 3,300 HV. In comparison, the normal TiN layer only has a hardness of 2,300 HV. The HV stands for Vickers hardness. This is a test method that is specifically taken for coatings. For this purpose, a standardized diamond test tip is pressed into the material with a certain force for a certain time. The relationship between the force and the area that was pressed, is multiplied by a factor and this results in the value that can be read above. In this case, the test was performed with a force of 5g. The color of the drill is purple and it has a coefficient of friction of 0.6. Its application temperature is max. 800°C.
